Different countries use different terms when describing the borrowing of money. In the UK we use terms such as:
Short Term Loan
The list goes on, but in truth they are all the same in that they are all to do with the borrowing of money. People borrow money from a variery of sources, be that banks, building societies, credit unions, direct payday lenders or short term loans companies. Loans that have to be repaid quickly, maybe under 12 months, are classed as short term loans whereas loans that last many years can be called personal loans. A loan attached to a house is called a mortgage or if you already have a mortgage on a house and take out another loan which is secured on the house, this may be called a second charge loan or 2nd mortgage.
Our main interest in this paper are short term loans UK. This is a search term used when hunting for a short term loan in the UK. As we mentioned above, the term short tern loan would typicalling be used to describe a short of less than 12 months and more than 1 month. A 1 month loan is typically called a payday loan. This loan has recieved a lot of very negative press over the last few years, with a few payday lenders being forced into redress by the FCA. These companies include Wonga, Dollar and the now defunct Cash Genie, the later being possibly the worst lender in the UK.
A number of companies offer short term loans, including ourselves, with installment loans being offered to UK residents. We call our loans installment loans and short term loans as in reality they are the same thing. Our loans are payable over 3, 5 or 6 months, but other lenders may offer loans over anything from 1 to 12 months. One of the great things about installment loans is that each installment is typically the same, which does make budgeting easier.
